How To Switch Gas and Electricity Supplier:

It can make sense these days in the UK to consider switching power supply company because there can be big differences in  the tariffs that are being charged by different power companies. it’s a fact that far too few of us actually do this. If you haven’t already checked out potential Gas and Electricity savings and switched to a better company then you are simply lining the pockets of the power companies - and they have very deep pockets. Gone are the days when Gas and Electricity in the UK were supplied by monopolies.  The energy market is now very competitive and power companies are keen to have your business. They also would rather you didn’t switch to another company.  It’s very important that you check your exsting energy tariff’s and compare their prices with other companies.

Remember that you will usuallly get better rates by getting both your Gas and Electricity from the same  supplier.
Once you have identified a suppplier with better tariffs for your type of energy needs then you should;

1) Agree and sign the contract with your new supplier. Transfer usually takes about six weeks to complete and they shoudl keep you advised about the rogress of your transfer.

2) Give your old supplier 28 days notice that you are changing to a new supplier. Do this by telephone and follow it up with a written confirmation. If you fail to inform your old supplier this can disrupt or delay your transfer.

3) Pay any outstanding Bills with your old supplier or the transfer may not go through.

4) Take a meter reading on  the day of transfer and make sure that both the old company and the new company are using this same reading.

When you are looking at choosing a new supplier bear in mind that many of them may have special tariffs and you should look for ones that best meet your particular circumstances. You can sometimes get extra savings if you choose your tariff carefully.
Some tariffs you might see include;

Cash Back Schemes,
Tariffs for older people, Special tariffs if you manage your account online and special  rates if you pay in partcular ways for example by Diirect Debit.
